5 For Haiti Campaign

Updated: Jan 21, 2010

Good Evening All

Here is what I have collected so far from our schools. I must say that I am so proud of our students and staff and our community for making this a huge success. From all indications below we should be able to make our goal of $90,000.

We would encourage anyone in the community that would like to donate to a local school's 5 for Haiti campaign to contact any school and they will gladly add it into the campaign for our big donation to Red Cross. Thanks for helping out our neighbours in Haiti! - Aubrey.

  • Riverview High's current total now exceeds $6700.00
  • Harrison Trimble are at $1500.00 as of end of day Wednesday. We will need a couple of extra days because we are selling t-shirts and have a few different things happening that will go past Friday.
  • Shediac Cape has around $1,038,00 dollars raised for Haiti.
  • As you know Lower Coverdale exceeded our goal yesterday of $500 and I challenged the school to see if we could collect $700. Well after all the collecting, digging through purses to find every penny we could, emptying the change from our cars etc. we are very pleased to be able to write a cheque for a nice even number.... how does $1000.00 sound?
  • Grade 8 English programme and Immersion students viewed a very informative powerpoint (created by SS teacher Kirsten Harpur and graciously shared!) and also sampled Haitian foods: Pain Haitien (Haitian bread) ET Pois rouges et rix (red beans and rice) on Friday, January 22.
  • I am very proud of our Arnold H Macleod school. We have raised $1625.10 with one more day to go. Some of the things we are doing are: Reading for Relief- children got pledges for reading. We had a hat day, pj day, teddy bear day and tomorrow is funky sock day. Students paid $1 each day to participate.
  • Beaverbrook have asked our school community to bring in their change $$.
  • To date Bessborough have raised a little over $2100.00 for the 5 for Haiti campaign. I have attached the letter I sent home to parents on Monday and the response has been great... as well, our staff has donated approximately $20.00 each! I would say that the "Smile" cookies and "Hearts for Haiti" are the two biggest money makers so far.
  • Students at Claude Taylor are learning an important lesson on citizenship as they help out those affected by the devastation in Haiti. On January 22nd, they will have an opportunity to make a donation to Haiti for the privilege of wearing their pajamas for the day.
  • At Dorchester Barbi Kaye and Kim Crossman are cooking up a feast tomorrow at noon for all staff for a luncheon with a donation going towards Haiti Relief.
  • District office has collected over $684 with an event planned for tomorrow.
  • At EC so far... with one day to go... we have raised a thousand dollars! Tomorrow we have crazy hat day for a dollar each.
  • Frank L Bowser is doing "Let's Rebuild an Island" with cash as per photo.
  • At Evergreen Park different grade levels decided to do various activities to raise funds for Haiti. The following are some of their activities. Team 2---Parents were encouraged to give five dollars to their child if five good deeds were done at home. Several teams had PJ day and brought in their spare change to school. Staff will be donating their casual day fund day to this cause.
  • Gunningsville staff/community has raised close to $1000 at this point. One class wrote persuasive letters for fund raising purposes, some students wanted to donate their allowances, and almost all staff have donated out of pocket towards the cause.
  • In Havelock, we are doing a coin drive this week, like we do annually for Christmas daddies. We have raised approx 250.00 so far.
  • At Hillsborough before counting today's amount our school total was at $460. Our goal is to reach and surpass $600. I have no doubt that we will reach this goal as the staff has not contributed yet and there is another special event tomorrow
  • At JMA there was a high school "celebrity Jeopardy" game in our theatre yesterday raising $528.00 in 40 minutes. Casual day will bring in more tomorrow. Our total today is well over $700.
  • Lower Coverdale set a target of $500 for the school with 86 kids and 10 staff members we thought that would be attainable. We sent home a note explaining the project and asked students to bring in "Change to Make a Change in Haiti". We designated today as a pyjama day but in order to wear your pj's it was going to cost you a toonie. I've been counting the money daily and as if this morning we have collected $637.51.
  • Marshview have had activities every day. There is a carnival tomorrow afternoon organized by our grade 6 classes. I am proud of how our students have responded.
  • To date, Petitcodiac has collected $ 2,717.20.The attachment is a picture of one of our grade 3 student (Tiggy Valentine) who spent several hours last weekend making/creating her hat for one of our activity day.
  • At Queen E we have set up activities for every day this week and each one costs a dollar for Haiti. PYJAMAS DAY, CRAZY HAT DAY, NECK TIE DAY, BACKWARDS CLOTHES DAY, HALLOWEEN IN JANUARY
  • RMS are half way to our school goal of $4000. We are hoping for a large collection day tomorrow and appreciate all your support.
  • Go Royals Go!!! Our students and staff provided the money; we did have some students sell cookies at the afternoon breaks [2 times]; we did have a student/staff tug-of-war competition; we did have some school sport's team contribute; mainly though it was our Royal's family—students and staff showing their compassion and pride in reaching the goal set.
  • Currently Salem has $1369 of the $1500 we challenged!
  • Salem has a family with 3 siblings (K, 2, and 4) who emptied their piggy banks and rolled their change. Combined they brought in over $18! Today a young lady in grade 2 was telling me that even though her mom gave her $5 she took $10 from her birthday money! Even retired teachers (Duane and Judi McLellan) and our principal who is on deferred leave (Shelly Anderson) have been in to donate!
  • West Riverview’s big day of donations is tomorrow "Hats for Haiti", but we have had many inquiries from people in the neighbourhood who do not have students in the school.
