Employability Skills Development In Phase I

Prior to students entering the workplace as a Youth Apprentice, they will attend their first Employability Skills Workshop. This is usually conducted as a 4 1/2 day seminar with the majority of workshops delivered by professional from the business community and includes seminars on many of the following:

Workplace Ethics Business Technical Writing
Personal Finance Employer/Employee Expectations
Occupational Health & Safety Human Rights
Leadership & Teamwork Skills Communication & Listening Skills
Customer Service Stress/Time Management
Job Maintenance Skills  

Employability Skills Development In Phase II

Phase II is a combination of structured workshops and independent learning. The Phase II component of YAP strives to develop leadership and self-awareness.

NOC (National Occupation Classification) Report Writing
Conflict Resolution Customer Service II
Occupational Health & Safety II Job Maintenance Skills II
Inter-personal Relations  

Independent Learning

Students choosing participation with YAP will complete the curriculum components listed above, as well as independent completion of the following:

  • First Aid/CPR or Safety Start
  • Passport to Safety (completed on-line)
  • Final Report
  • Any prior learning will be assessed by the YAP Coordinator
