Application Process

The Youth Apprenticeship Program is a provincial program and available to students currently enrolled in grades 10 and 11 in the Anglophone public high school system. To apply for the posted positions, you must be successfully completing the school year with satisfactory marks and good attendance in a public high school in School District 2.

The positions posted will be for two phases of paid work experience (approx 180 hours per phase). Most work occurs during the summer however some of these jobs carry on throughout the year or begin in the fall. Please read carefully the hours of work and qualifications required for each position of interest to you. Students will gain extensive skills training through the YAP in a fun, friendly atmosphere. Phase 1 of the YAP program begins in June – December and Phase 2 begins in January – end of August. Students must complete both phases of the curriculum and work experience to receive their certificate of completion.

There are two application processes to compete for a Youth Apprenticeship Program position. Please review both processes to determine what works best for you. The majority of students will be chosen in the Process #1. Youth Apprentices must attend all employability skills training workshops, as expected by the employer partner. The first workshop will be at the end of June and will be held at a University in Moncton. This mandatory workshop is the beginning of your Youth Apprenticeship Program experience, which will bring you many long-term gains.

REMEMBER, THESES ARE REAL JOBS AND THERE IS COMPETITION, SO TAKE YOUR TIME AND DO IT RIGHT. THERE IS ONLY ONE CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION.

Process #1 - Posted Positions

Competitive process – Application forms are available at your guidance office or on the School District 2 website.

  • After looking at the positions available, choose one (or more) of interest to you and that you and your references (teachers) feel meet your qualifications. Read each position carefully to see if it is suited to your needs ie: physical location of work, type of work, etc.
  • Each position applied for will require an original of each of the following:
    • Resume – well organized, easy to read, typewritten and NO spelling or grammar mistakes.
    • Cover letter – remember this is your chance to show the employer what qualifies you for the job. This is a very important part of the application.
    • YAP job Application Form – completed neatly in ink.

Application Deadline: (to be announced)

Please submit your completed forms to your Guidance Office.

Please note: Employers will not accept applications directly from you

We have had requests to open the Youth Apprenticeship program to interested students who have or are certain to have established paid employment and request an opportunity to be part of the YAP. The number of students accepted in this manner is limited and will depend on the number of seats available in the program.
