Project Linus

Students are making blankets for Project Linus. These washable blankets are given as gifts to seriously ill (emphasis on cancer) and traumatized children.

The grade 4 students at Forest Glen School have untaken this project as a Community Service Project. Work is done at recess and noontime. We are using this project as a teaching tool to teach the children how to give back to their community even through they are only 8 and 9 years old. This is also their way of making the world a better place as we teach empathy. The children are working together and learning the satisfaction of volunteering and giving.

The blankets are made from fleece and are reversible. Staff cut the fringe and the students tie the 2 layers of blanket together.

Here are what some students say, "It makes me feel warm inside because I did something kind", and "It makes me happy because I am helping someone who is sick".

Lou MacNarin Musketeers Busy!

This year has been a busy one at Lou. In the fall, Mr. Wayne Burke organized our Jump Rope for Heart. The students raised nearly $9,500.00 for this great cause, not beating lasts year's record of $12,325.00, but certainly nothing to be ashamed of. Over the last week our school family has had two fund raisers on the go. We raised just over $1,384.00 for the 5 for Haiti campaign. We had a PJ day, where Students and staff paid 50 cents to wear their PJ's for the day. Each class participated to see how much they could raise by giving their spare change from lunch or bringing money from home. Everyone got involved. Also going on, and spearheaded, by our Home and School, was a fundraiser for one of our families who lost their home to a fire. The response by the students was amazing and as a result $1,200.00 was raised for the Landry family. Way to go Musketeers, you lived out our motto this week All for one and one for all.

Each month, we will set aside a Thursday morning for classes to share breakfast with their parents. Last Thursday morning, January 28th, was the Kindergarten class' turn. We invited parents to share breakfast with their child in our school's cafeteria at 8:00 in the morning. Parents were also invited to bring their child with them on that day at 8:00. We believe that children learn from the adults in their lives and we want to model healthy eating habits from the first meal of the day. With the media attention fading on Haiti and the need for relief still very, very real. We remember the sacrifice our friend and colleague Mark Gallagher made for Haiti perhaps we can dig a little deeper. 5 For Haiti

Schools in District 2 are moving into high gear to help raise funds for the people of Haiti. Many schools have set their targets and campaigns that will take place over 5 days next week such as the Petitcodiac’s 5 for Haiti, Hillcrest Helping Haiti and the Royal Pride Challenge to name a few. The goal for the campaign is $90,000. District 2 has challenged other school districts to start their own campaigns and District 8 in Saint John has taken up the challenge.

A special donation of $10,000 was made to the campaign by parent and business owner George Donavon of Gogii Games. Other business owners are challenged to contribute to this relief aid. All money raised will be going to the Red Cross.

A Message from the Superintendent

Karen Branscombe - Superintendent of School District 2

School District 2 teachers, administrators and teacher assistants started the month with two Professional Development Days. As I moved from session to session, I was so pleased to see teachers teaching teachers. So many of our workshop leaders were our own District 2 teachers. By sharing their competencies, skills and expertise with their peers, teachers impact the learning environment for our students. Best practices in teaching must not be hidden away with classroom doors closed and I am honored that so many of our teachers agreed to lead our professional development sessions. I wish everyone a wonderful start to 2010.

Sincerely,
Karen Branscombe, Superintendent

District 2's "Fill the Bus" Smashes Record!

33,000 pounds (14968 kg) of food was collected by students and staff for the 10th anniversary of Fill the Bus food drive breaking last year's record of 28,000 pounds (12700 kg). This unprecedented single food drive campaign is the largest ever in Southeast NB. "The generosity of our schools and community is overwhelming" says organizer Aubrey Kirkpatrick, "the impact of this food drive will be felt well into the new year when food banks need it most".

28 schools throughout the district did a fantastic job with this year's campaign. Bernice MacNaughton High School blew the doors off 2 school buses by providing 14,500 pounds (6577 kg) of food. That is approximately 15.2 pounds (6.8 kg) of food per student at the school. Principal Gary Wilson credited the excellent work of the organizing committee, his staff and students for getting behind this much needed food drive.

An exuberant Ken Rafuse, Supervisor Warehouse Operations at the Food Depot stated "the students will never know how much this means to so many people, a heartfelt thanks goes out to each and every participant of Fill the Bus!" It is estimated that over 180,000 pounds of food has been donated through the Fill the Bus food drive over the past 10 years.

8 yellow school buses were dispatched today to cover the school district. 2 buses had to be sent back out as they were filled before completing their run. The food is collected and off-loaded by district office volunteers and volunteer bus drivers. This year students from Harrison Trimble High School and Bernice MacNaughton helped unload food at the Food Depot. All donations will be distributed back to the local community food banks by the Food Depot.

Food DEPOT Alimentaire is a registered non-profit charity that services more than 20 food banks, community kitchens and agencies in southeastern New Brunswick. The Food Depot is a strong advocate for the poor and working poor, as well as for the agencies serviced by providing food distribution, fundraising and food collection. Food DEPOT Alimentaire has been in operation for more than 20 years.

Christmas is a great time for giving; thank you to all for breaking the records for our 10th anniversary of Fill the Bus!!!

Great Student Leadership at Sunny Brae

Our Leadership students at Sunny Brae have been busy organizing activities to help with the "Fill The Bus" campaign. Our Anti-Bullying team, "Bullybusters", has also been busy, creating lunch-time activities for our 5/6 students. These activities can take the form of games, sports or contests. This way our younger students are busy having fun while being able to connect with older students who become positive role models.

A Message from the Superintendent

Karen Branscombe - Superintendent of School District 2

The magical month of December is here and with it comes the many activities with family, friends and in our schools that fill our days and evenings. Our production of GREASE is a great way to celebrate the beginning of the season as it is a wonderful display of the talent and commitment of so many students, staff and parents. Thank you to all who attended and especially, to those who have put in so many hours during the past months to bring this production to the stage.

Throughout the month of December, you can take advantage of many Christmas concerts, dinners and other events in our schools. It is a time of celebration and reflection and a time to acknowledge those who are so dear to us. Our latest edition of ACHIEVE magazine is out now and it gives us much to celebrate as so many students and staff contributed to this edition. I am proud to work with parents, community members, staff and students who understand the value of working together.

This month also brings us to our Tenth Annual Fill the Bus campaign. Working together over these past nine years, staff and students have continued to fill many, many buses of food for the food depot in our area. On December 17th, our buses will roll out again to the schools and district office to collect food for the drive. As Douglas Lawson stated, "We exist temporarily through what we take, but we live forever through what we give."

Best wishes for a peaceful holiday season.

Sincerely,
Karen Branscombe, Superintendent

A courtroom has never been more lively and fun! This smart and wickedly funny musical is great for audiences of any age. The jury — our audience — must decide the outcome of the biggest trial ever in the fairy-tale world! The notorious Big Bad Wolf is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by a group of quirky characters who want to get even: Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandmother, the Three Little Pigs, Bo Peep and of course, the Boy Who Cried Wolf. With Sydney Grimm as the commentator on live Court TV for the Enchanted Forest News, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest—the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother—clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after. As our wronged fairy tale characters testify, the wolf seems deserving of all that's coming. Yet, even though the infamous Evil Stepmother resents doing pro-bono work on such an obviously futile defense, Mr. Wolf makes a good case for himself. Was he born a criminal, or made one? You decide! RMS helps support “Grandmothers Helping Grandmothers” in Lesotho, southern Africa

“Grandmothers Helping Grandmothers”, in conjunction with Help Lesotho, provides support to caregiver/grandmothers and their grandchildren who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS. (Lesotho has the 3rd highest incidence of AIDS in the world) Among other things many of these children need are shoes. Many walk as far as 8-10 km to school with no shoes or ones that are barely worthy of the name. In addition, Lesotho is a mountainous country with a “real” winter, including snow.

In this the season of generosity towards others, we are asking students to donate their loose change in the effort to purchase shoes for those less fortunate. Along with raising funds for shoes, RMS students will develop a sense of global awareness as part of their Social Studies curriculum. The shoes, purchased in Lesotho, cost $15/pair. Grade 7 students will be collecting and counting all the funds received. Carol Anne Daigle and Marie Cashion, retired UNB professor, will be presenting this project to RMS students on December 9th. A Message from the Superintendent

Karen Branscombe - Superintendent of School District 2

School District 2 uses every opportunity to communicate with staff, students and parents. Most recently, we have added Facebook to our menu of opportunities for communication. Throughout the past few weeks, many of you have taken the opportunity to ask us a question or make a comment on our Facebook site and we appreciate this opportunity to address concerns or clarify misunderstandings. As you know, so many times, stories or opinion are expressed about schools through the media. We are so appreciative of the great coverage we do get about our student activities. Every week, on Friday, we send a Media Advisory, called What's Happening to community stakeholders and our schools. Much of this gets great coverage by our media partners and I want to acknowledge their support of our schools and programs. Being able to get messages out about the great work of our students and staff is so important to us. We know that there is great interest and debate about "public" schools. We choose not to publically debate opinions about education as we stay focused on student success in our schools. Being visible in the schools and working closely with teachers and administrators is my expectation of myself and district staff and that is where our time is best spent. There is great work to be done and very important work happening in our schools. Thank you to all who work with us as partners and support student learning.

Sincerely,
Karen Branscombe, Superintendent

Lest We Forget

Every year on November 11, Canadians pause in a silent moment of remembrance for the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace. We honour those who fought for Canada in the First World War (1914-1918), the Second World War (1939-1945), and the Korean War (1950-1953), as well as those who have served since then. More than 1,500,000 Canadians have served our country in this way, and more than 100,000 have died. They gave their lives and their futures so that we may live in peace.
- Veterans Affairs Canada

"We must remember. If we do not, the sacrifice of those one hundred thousand Canadian lives will be meaningless. They died for us, for their homes and families and friends, for a collection of traditions they cherished and a future they believed in; they died for Canada. The meaning of their sacrifice rests with our collective national consciousness; our future is their monument." - Source: Heather Robertson, A Terrible Beauty, The Art of Canada at War. MHS Receives Breakfast Program Grant

The Moncton High School Breakfast Program, has been chosen as one of the President's Choice Children's Charity flagship programs to be granted the sum of $30,000 over a three-year period.

Their application to the national "Breakfast for Learning Program" was received in June 2009, and was selected as one of the few high schools in Canada to receive this generous funding through President's Choice.

The Breakfast Program at Moncton High School operates out of the school cafeteria each day prior to the beginning of classes, and is run primarily by student volunteers. On a typical day, between fifty and one hundred students drop-by the cafeteria for a quick breakfast, and begin their day with a full stomach, ready to learn.

The monies received from President's Choice/Loblaws, will be used to purchase breakfast items (bagels, milk, fresh fruit, etc.) in addition to industrial equipment used in food preparation and storage. The staff and students at Moncton High School accepted the cheque from Breakfast for Learning on Wednessday October 28th during a special morning "breakfast launch" in their school cafeteria. Ryan Buchanan (school president), Mr. Munn (school principal), and many of the staff & students of MHS were on hand to pass on their 'thanks' to both the Breakfast for Learning board members and the representative of Loblaws, Mr. Jim Mills.

Following the program, staff host a luncheon for the representatives from the local Legion and enjoy a time of sharing and getting reacquainted.

This is Hillsborough Elementary's attempt to have students realize the freedoms we enjoy today have come and are currently happening at a cost to many around them. Unless children experience firsthand someone close to them going off to war or to keep the peace, this is one of the ways we can help them appreciate the daily struggle that takes place around the world for peace. School Attendance Update

On Wed, Nov 4 we had an average of 17.3% absent. 30 out of 37 schools reported more than 10% out with the highest absent at 37.9%. The qualification for all of this is that we do not have hard numbers on what students are out with - whether it is colds, flu, other appointments or parents keeping kids home. Further to this, yesterday was "Bring Our Kids to Work Day" for grade 9's so that affected the attendance rates as well.

Premier Graham Visits West Riverview School

Students at West Riverview School had a special guest teacher today. Premier Shawn Graham, a former phy ed teacher, visited the school to check out its newly installed $59,000 gym floor and to see how his commitment to increased phy ed in schools was impacting students.

The Graham government increased the number of minutes per week to 150 from 100 last year, and hired more physical education teachers. Schools have been phasing in increased instructional time with full implementation of the 150 minutes expected next year.

"Physical education is an important part of ensuring that students exercise not only their minds, but their bodies," said Premier Graham. "My government is committed to ensuring our students receive an education that gives all students an opportunity to find something they are passionate about."

The increase in physical education was part of a broader initiative that also saw the return of art and music teachers to the schools. More than 100 new positions have been created for specialists in those three areas.

"My government is investing in our school infrastructure and at the same time, encouraging students to be active and make healthy lifestyle choices that will serve them well as they grow into productive and active adults,” said Premier Graham.

The new rubber flooring installed in the gym is just one of a number of improvements made at West Riverview School recently. Last year, close to $366,000 was spent on site improvements that included a new bus drop-off area and staff parking lot.

A Message from the Superintendent

Karen Branscombe - Superintendent of School District 2

Each year in School District 2, our students amaze me with the community involvement, volunteering and charity support that they are able to accomplish. Schools like Marshview Middle School rally behind the Terry Fox run and Riverview High School has been a leading supporter of the Run for the Cure year after year in this area.

Most recently, I was invited to attend the kick off of the annual Trojan Trek at Harrison Trimble High School. For the past 25 years, the Trojans have raised money on an annual basis for the neonatal unit at the Moncton Hospital. Last year, they reached a 25 year total of over 100,000 dollars. As I sat through the assembly and listened to parents who had experienced, first hand, the wonders of the neonatal unit, I knew that our world would be in good hands with students like the Trojan family. As an adult, it is often easy to lose sight of the caring and giving nature of our young people. Thank you to all the students in School District 2 who do so much for others in their lives. You do make a difference.

Sincerely,
Karen Branscombe, Superintendent

Don't Miss "In Pink" – Bullying Awareness

Bernard Touesnard from Riverview Crime prevention would like the following information out to parents & students of school district 2. On October 27th they will be presenting a production at the Riverview Arts Center, titled “In Pink”. In September, 2007, Nova Scotian teens DJ Sheppard and Travis Price implemented the most talked about anti-bullying initiative in Canadian history. Armed with a bag full of pink t-shirts and a simple idea, they stood up for a bullied student at their high school and brought their message to a worldwide audience.

Halifax’s Left Foot First Productions bring the tale of DJ, Travis and the t-shirts to the stage with IN PINK. The story that made international headlines is just the beginning of the journey that took 2 boys from the high school hallway to the spotlight. Left Foot First’s creation process began with a series of interviews and conversations with DJ and Travis, and, using the boys’ own words as the raw materials, the company explored and developed their story into this one-act, two-handed show. Inspired by real events, real emotion and an issue that touches us all, Left Foot First Productions are proud to present the World Premiere of IN PINK. www.riverview-arts-centre.ca

Waste Reduction Week

Each year, Waste Reduction Week in Canada (October 19 - 25, 2009) looks for new ways to educate and engage students in environmental stewardship. This year, we have developed a new initiative that we think will truly get students thinking about ways to reduce waste - The Waste Reduction Week Video Contest.

There have been unsubstantiated reports that Sesame Street's Oscar the Grouch is back in Canada (see Osc Watch) secretly exploring why Canadians are so concerned about trash and reducing waste. Waste Reduction Week in Canada is calling on students in grades four through six to send in videos or photos of their best and most unique waste reduction tips so we can show the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling waste. Let's help Oscar realize what he should already know, that he has always been a Green Muppet.

Murder Mystery at the Cape

A wealthy, elderly couple was poisoned in their rural New Brunswick home. Who would do such a horrific act? Why? How? When? Our grade sevens had to decide...

On October first and second, grade 7 students at Shediac Cape School took part in a writing workshop with authors Valerie and Alistair Evans. This Saint John couple were both journalists before they retired and now they write various articles for the New Brunswick Museum. In their free time, they hosts "Murder Mystery Weekends" for adults but decided that teaching middle school students how to write Whodunits would be equally, if not more, exciting. Armed with props, various vials of poison and a script, they arrive early last Thursday morning greeting 31 curious students in the library.

"A couple was killed last night" Alistair whispers in a thick English accent "and you are all suspects!" In shock, the students are handed a storyline along with a character and a corresponding hat to fit the role. Then, they are asked to create a short play within a small group to visualize the murder. "It helps with the creative process to act out the scene first", Valerie explains. Other activities were putting a puzzle together to find clues to the scene, drawing the scene of the crime and describing the poison by using our five senses. After each engaging activity, the students would write, share with the group and discuss. The results were amazing- some students were so motivated, they wrote up to 12 pages!

At the end of the workshop, parents were invited to hear the stories that were created. Like each student, each story was unique with its very own strengths, interests and twists. Student faces were gleaming with pride and many asked the authors for their e-mails so that they could continue sending them their stories. "You really have wonderful writers at your school", Valerie commented, "and I truly enjoy reading them. By all means, give them my e-mail!"

Both Ms. Soucoup and Ms. Fairweather were deeply impressed by the facilitators and the students. "We learned so much from them and we'll never forget the energy and interest that flowed from students that day. They WANT to write now because writing has become fun and purposeful". Both teachers hope that these writers will continue to visit them every year. A very warm thank-you to Mrs. Richter who helped with the event.

Dorchester Consolidated Terry Fox Run

The Terry Fox Run was held Friday, Sept. 25th. This year was all the more special as Dorchester Consolidated was trying to exceed their donations from last year and although final tallies are not in, they are over the top with last year's donations.

Students and Staff were very eager this year and had a personal interest as long-time teacher Gail LeBlanc joined us as honorary chair and led our walk. Mrs. LeBlanc is on a leave from teaching until 2010. She gave a very inspirational talk to students on how someone who is an athlete and very conscious of what they do every day can end up with cancer. She is battling the disease herself. Being a science teacher, she gave a detailed account of how cancer can hit anyone and how she is thankful that she walked the very first Terry Fox Run and educated students on its value each year and held walks herself as now it has hit her own family. Students are looking forward to her return in January, 2010 as new technology has given her the means to beat the disease.

DEC Approves 2010-2011 Capital Improvement Projects List

The top 5 capital projects on the list amount to $1.15 million with the top 10 totalling almost $2 million. Each year the district receives an average $1.25 million per year from the province. With the list containing 555 projects totaling $80,628,000 the amount of projects on the list continues to grow. The first project on the list is a realignment of the BMHS entrance. Many partners have lined up to do this project and we don’t want to miss the opportunity to get this safety project completed.

The next item on the list is an Elevator lift at Tantramar High School that we have been told by the elevator inspector must be fixed or locked out. The cost is estimated at $45,000. This is followed by the final phase of the exterior wall and window upgrade of Frank L Bowser estimated at $140,000. There are 11 roof projects that are of immediate concern in schools such as Birchmount, Salisbury, Caledonia, Bessborough, Port Elgin and Edith Cavell that need to be done as soon as possible. The roof projects total $1.8 million.

TRHS Science 10 Teachers Showcase HP Project

Tantramar Regional High School Science 10 Teachers showcased new technology and shared highlights of their exciting HP Innovations in Education project. Over the next two years, these four enthusiastic, innovative teachers-- along with colleagues at Bernice MacNaughton High School-- will be infusing technology into project-based learning in an effort to increase student engagement and learning in Science. TRHS team members explained that, in particular, they are endeavouring to increase enrolments in upper-level courses such as Environmental Science.

Teacher Amy Flanagan told enthusiastic parents that the team would be leaving behind traditional textbooks and lectures. Instead, students will be challenged to work collaboratively to solve complex, real-world problems, venturing out into environments such as the wetlands with mini note computers and probeware to collect data. Students will use spreadsheets to organize and analyze data, word processors to write reports, and presentation software to share learning with others. In fact, in a forward-thinking move by the school, as students leverage technology to complete these authentic tasks, they will be earning a grade 12 technology credit while completing their Science 10 requirements. Students’ research through real-world examples will culminate in the development of educational resources that will benefit their own community.

In May, District 2 was only one of eight school systems in Canada to be awarded the highly competitive 2009 HP Innovations in Education grant. TRHS and BMHS will receive an award package of HP technology, cash, and professional services valued at more than US$100,000.

Soon a section of our District 2 website will be created so that you can share in the successes of both TRHS and BMHS teachers and students during the HP project.

Professional Learning Communities

Superintendent Branscombe reminded listener's of News 91.9 - The Drive that school district staff are keeping their focus on Professional Learning Communities. Teachers have embraced the PLC initiative over the past few years and are working together like never before. These 4 big questions are driving our work to improved student learning:

  1. What is it we want students to learn?
  2. How will we know if they have learned it?
  3. What will we do if they do not know the work?
  4. What will we do if they already know it?

School District 2's Education Plan will focus on Math and Literacy in this upcoming school year with resources being allotted for many supportive initiatives.

Edith Cavell School Closed Friday

Superintendent, Karen Branscombe has announced that Edith Cavell School will be closed Friday, September 11th to allow for extensive cleaning and to reopen on Monday September 14th.

At approximately 1:20am Thursday, September 10th the fire alarm rang at Edith Cavell School. The school custodian responded to meet the fire department immediately. The fire was quickly identified in the outside canopy. The fire was caused by a light fixture ballast. The fire was quickly extinguished. It appears the ballast shorted out. We are now inspecting canopies to see if we have any similar setups.

The smoke detector in the stairwell did its job and tripped the alarm closing the fire doors containing the smoke to the stairwell. However, prior to the fire doors closing smoke got into one section of the school. This smoke has left behind a strong fire odour as well as soot on the floors, walls and furniture. The fire department gave the all clear this morning to begin clean up and restoration.

Our district staff have responded quickly and efficiently including the school principal, custodians, assistant facilities manager and maintenance personnel. Several companies have been called in to assist, from fire restoration, ventilation, window replacement to sprinkler and fire alarm companies.

Even though we have the exhaust fans running today and extra fans operating in the school it is still suffering from the smoke odour. Ceiling tiles are being replaced and the fabric furniture is being steam cleaned as well to remove odours. In the interest for safety of students and staff the school will be closed on Friday to allow further cleaning and odour elimination over the following three days. This will allow the school to be back to the opening day condition this coming Monday.

We are thankful for the quick response of the fire department, school and district personnel that avoided this from being a much worse scenario.

A Message from the Superintendent

Karen Branscombe - Superintendent of School District 2

During the weeks leading up to our first day of school, several parents have contacted the district office to discuss their concerns around the school supply lists given out by some of our teachers and schools. I want you to know that I recognize that this is a concern of many people and we will be reviewing the lists and discussing this further with the schools. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Parents play an important role in the education of their children. By encouraging healthy habits such as physical activity, enough sleep and good food choices, parents send their children to school with a definite learning advantage. With the present H1N1 concern, personal hygiene is most important and students should be reminded of the importance of proper hand washing.

On behalf of all District 2 staff, I welcome new and returning students to our schools. I look forward to attending activities such as our musicals, book festivals, chess tournament, science fairs, public speaking, sporting events and many other events that highlight the hard work of our students.

Sincerely,
Karen Branscombe, Superintendent

School District 2 would like to thank Aliant Pioneers for their generous donation of over 50 backpacks. We will be sure to send these valuable gifts out to children in need within District 2. Thank you for making the first days of school a more exciting time for many of our students.

The donation comes from Backpacks for Kids, an annual Aliant program which aims to make back-to-school easier for kids in need. While the backpacks were provided by Aliant, they were filled with new school supplies by Aliant employees and Aliant Pioneer Volunteers. Thank you Aliant!

CUPE Staff Placement Day a Success!

District 2 office staff working in collaboration with CUPE 2745 executive and their members conducted a very successful Staff Placement Day for School District 2 on August 19th, 2009. More than 200 Library Assistants, Teacher Assistants, School Intervention Workers and School Secretaries gathered at Riverview Middle School to settle the staffing changes that arose as a result of budget reductions and operational changes. All permanent employees who were in layoff were able to secure a position before leaving the staffing day.

The District is also able to post a number of job vacancies as a result of normal movements throughout the summer in preparation for the new school year. With the excellent announcement of the reinstatement of funding this summer in the area of school libraries and positive learning environment all of the staff that were previously laid off in those areas are returning back to their former positions at the start of the school year.

We look forward to another successful school year of supporting all students in School District 2!

New Student Drop-Off for RMS

Students and parents will see a whole new look at the entrance to Riverview Middle School when starting the 2009-2010 school year. A lay-by has been arranged so that parents coming off Cleveland and onto Devere will be able to pull in close to the curb and drive up to the end of the arrows so that a line of cars can let their children off safely at school. Parents should approach the school from Cleveland turning on to Devere as there are dangers of trying to turn left into the student drop-off.

Staff parking will now be located in the theatre parking area and on the field side of the building; however, there will be one disability parking space and three visitor parking spaces in the front. With parents entering into the lay-by on Devere for drop-off, there should be less congestion of cars in the traffic area and thereby less danger to students.

For more information please contact Nancy Matthews, Principal at 856-3449.

First day information, school supply lists, and much more may be found on the RMS website

Student Registration

Registration for students in elementary or middle schools will begin on August 31st at the respective schools. This includes all K to 8 schools in School District 2. Parents should appear in person at the school during the week of August 31st to register their child.

High Schools have administrative staff working during the summer so parents of children attending High School may register their children anytime. The secretaries do take their holidays during the summer months so a call should be made to the school to ensure that there is staff in the office on the day of your visit. All High School staff will be present as of August 31st.

Parents will need to complete a Student Registration Form. The forms are available at the school and also online.

Copies of the forms are also available at the School District 2 office at 1077 St. George Blvd, Moncton. All registrations take place at the school where the student will be attending.

Community Use of Schools

School District 2 invites applications for Community Use of Schools in Moncton for the season 2009 – 2010.

The District will give priority to non-profit community youth programming based on individual requests. Adult programs are encouraged based on later time availability.

Application forms may be completed on-line. Click 'Online Facility Request Application'. The 'Quick Step Guide' may assist with the process. Once the application is completed, click 'Save'. Your request will be routed to the chosen facility.

A Message from the Superintendent

Karen Branscombe - Superintendent of School District 2

The 2009-2010 School Year begins on Tuesday, September 8. Over the summer months, district staff have worked tirelessly to prepare our buildings, buses and all support services needed to enhance the learning environment for our students. Staffing and recruitment continues and school administrators finalize plans for the year.
