Welcome to the HP Innovations in Education section of the District 2 website! You are invited to keep up-to-date on and to share in the excitement of the technology-infused, project-based learning being undertaken during our HP project!
Who? 2009-2010: Grade 10 Science Students / 2010-2011: Grade 10 Science + Upper-Level Physics & Environmental Science Students
What? 2009 HP Innovations in Education grant
When? Sept. 2009 - June 2011
Where? Bernice MacNaughton & Tantramar Regional High Schools
Why? At both BMHS and TRHS, a gap exists between the enrollment in Chemistry and Biology compared to that in Physics and Environmental Science. Educators at the two schools believe that the first two subjects appeal to a greater number of students because of their hands-on nature. Traditionally, high schools have been equipped with the laboratories and materials necessary so that students can engage in self-directed, inquiry-oriented experiences in Chemistry and Biology. This type of learning appeals to the schools' many visual and kinesthetic learners. Due to limited access to technology, however, learning in Physics and Environmental Science has tended to be more abstract.
How? Thanks to the time and effort devoted to writing a successful proposal, BMHS and TRHS educators are now able to provide their students with greater access to the real-world technologies used by physics and environmental science experts. For more details, please check out the BMHS and TRHS Showcases.
