A Message from the Superintendent

Karen Branscombe - Superintendent of School District 2

School District 2 uses every opportunity to communicate with staff, students and parents. Most recently, we have added Facebook to our menu of opportunities for communication. Throughout the past few weeks, many of you have taken the opportunity to ask us a question or make a comment on our Facebook site and we appreciate this opportunity to address concerns or clarify misunderstandings. As you know, so many times, stories or opinion are expressed about schools through the media. We are so appreciative of the great coverage we do get about our student activities. Every week, on Friday, we send a Media Advisory, called What's Happening to community stakeholders and our schools. Much of this gets great coverage by our media partners and I want to acknowledge their support of our schools and programs. Being able to get messages out about the great work of our students and staff is so important to us. We know that there is great interest and debate about "public" schools. We chose not to publically debate opinions about education as we stay focused on student success in our schools. Being visible in the schools and working closely with teachers and administrators is my expectation of myself and district staff and that is where our time is best spent. There is great work to be done and very important work happening in our schools. Thank you to all who work with us as partners and support student learning.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Kindergarten registration for the 2010-2011 school year is ongoing. Parents should visit their neighborhood school between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm to register their child. It is not necessary to make an appointment. Register your child as soon as possible to become part of all the exciting events occurring throughout the year.
